Employee Assistance Programs
An ‘EAP’ is an organisation sponsored service that enables staff to confidentially access short term, professional counselling to assist with the resolution of work or personal related concerns that may be impacting on work performance or quality of work life. Whilst most organisations have well developed HR protocols to assist with routine people management issues, it is not uncommon for people to experience more pressing difficulties at some time in their working life. These difficulties may be better dealt with by an experienced mental health practitioner, external to the organisation, who has an appreciation of business imperatives yet can implement effective short term counselling strategies.

Assure Programs extensive EAP experience across a range of organisations indicates that a fully implemented, easily accessible, appropriately resourced and accountable EAP can contribute to significantly lower overall costs. As unplanned absences decrease, staff replacement costs reduce, conflict diminishes and morale improves, the organisation can enjoy the benefits of a workforce characterised by a dynamic client focus, efficient and open management, and staff viewing their work as being rewarding and satisfying.
Critical Incident and Trauma Management
Assure Programs specialised critical incident and traumatic stress management service includes 24 hour on-call emergency access for early intervention, comprehensive assessment and expert debriefing and follow-up for employees by one of Assure Programs senior staff psychologists.

All of Assure Programs psychologists are experienced in the management of critical incidents and traumatic stress. In particular, senior staff have been involved in critical incident management over many years with emergency service personnel, state and federal police, Vietnam veterans, victims of crime, correctional officers, hospital staff, industrial disasters and serious road trauma. This expertise can also be utilised in pro-active staff training to enhance self-management skills and minimise incident impact.

Assure Programs Critical Incident Management Services (CIMS) procedures and best practice guidelines take into account:
  • Organisational requests for debriefing services in a much wider range of situations than standard debriefing protocols were designed for and
  • Organisational contextual factors (eg pre-existing industrial issues, vocational discontent, and organisational climate) which frequently exert a major influence over critical incident outcomes.
AssureFirst
AssureFirst is a counselling service provided on an individual referral basis, where access to an EAP or CIMS is not available. This confidential and voluntary counselling service is provided as a resource to employees by their organisation, and may also be extended to immediate family, clients, or members of the public where appropriate or authorised.

AssureFirst sessions are short term and solution focused. Sessions are usually one hour in length and most issues can be improved within a few sessions. Where longer term counselling is required, the counsellor will suggest specialist advice and a referral will be made to a service which is free or within the client's capacity to pay.

A key feature of AssureFirst is that confidentiality is assured and maintained. Like doctors, Assure Programs counsellors are strictly bound by a professional code of ethics, preventing them from giving our personal information without the client's consent.
Manager Support Program
The Manager Support Program provides managers with an avenue to obtain timely support in managing personal and interpersonal work issues related to managing staff performance, work relationships and organisational change. This program is not meant to replace the internal resources, which provide support to managers, but recognises these may at times be limited and extra expertise may be required for specific issues or for short periods of time.

A small dedicated team with human resources, psychological and legal skills and experience provide the manager support services. Whereas the EAP focuses on clinical counselling issues, the Manager Support Program has been developed to confidentially support managers as they lead. The Manager Support Program has been tailored to meet the needs of managers and offers flexible meeting locations and hours of operation. Managers may access the program face to face or by phone.

Follow up is also a key feature of this program. This enables managers the opportunity to implement new strategies and to receive support and feedback in an interactive manner. Negative consequences or outcomes can be discussed and skills fine-tuned in real time. This may be particularly useful at times such as the performance management review period.
AssurePlus - Confidential Help for HR Managers
Assure Programs has initiated the AssurePlus service for key Human Resource contacts within our client organisations. This service accommodates the requirements of people with whom we have regular liaison who may wish to seek confidential counselling for their own issues. Understandably they may not be comfortable utilising the existing Assure Programs EAP Provider Network. AssurePlus counselling and any identifying records or data is kept fully separate from any Assure Programs staff or managers with whom our HR contacts may have regular dealings. This service provides anonymity additional to Assure Programs already significant confidentiality mechanisms.

AssurePlus is accessed via a password protected section of our website which details suitably qualified and experienced local psychologist colleagues who we know and respect. Our HR contacts can make an appointment with their preferred psychologist and identify that they are covered by the Assure Programs EAP and be seen under AssurePlus. In keeping with the full confidentiality of the program, the psychologist would complete the necessary internal Assure Programs paperwork without the person’s name. The client organisation and minimal presenting concerns data will be returned to Assure Programs for processing and incorporating into the regular client EAP reports.

AssurePlus is not an urgent response or crisis counselling service, rather a professional private practitioner service with additional anonymity provisions.
